Batik with Glue

Batik

This project was so much fun and the results were nothing short of excellent!

We set out to make banners using a faux batik method using white glue. The students started by sketching ideas for the design. When a design was decided upon it was enlarged and drawn in sharpie on a large sheet of paper. Then with fabric over the drawing the entire design was then "drawn" on the fabric with white school glue.

Once the glue had dried we used watered down acrylics to paint the fabric. We used a wet on wet technique by wetting the fabric with clear water before painting it

sketching- a very important step!

Once the paint was dry we soaked the banners in warm water for about 30 minutes and then scrubbed out the softened glue by hand.

then hung to dry...

Then pressed with an iron.

I am so thrilled with how these turned out!
