Special 6 week Session

Drawing - Animals
Tuesdays January 17- February 21

In this class we will work on value, texture, and line to draw primarily horses and birds. We will work on getting proper proportions, showing musculature, and how to be successful drawing fur, and feathers!

For artists 8 and older
Fees = $55 for 6 classes, all supplies included

Watercolor- Nature
Tuesdays January 17-February 21
11:15-12:15 pm

In this class we will work on gaining control of watercolor paint by learning several painting techniques. We will be working on a series of painting of plants, flowers, insects, and birds.

For artists 8 and older

Session I

Drawing - chalk pastels
Tuesdays February 28- March 21 from 10-11:00 am

In this class we will draw with chalk pastels as we learn different drawing techniques from scumbling to crosshatch and become successful at using and layering color. We will learn how to use underpainting as we work through a series of tutorials in landscape drawing.

Multicultural Art - Maori Tribal Art
Tuesdays February 28-March 21 from 11:15-12:15 pm

Thursdays March 2-23 from 11:15-12:15

In this class we will explore the artwork of the Maori Tribes of New Zealand! We will learn about Poi ball dancers and make our own Maori Poi and Ti Rakau sticks! We will also study the significance of Koru (the Maori word for the new unfurling fern frond) and create a multimedia drawing of our own. 

For artists 5 and older

Session II

Drawing - Still life drawing
Tuesdays April 4-25 from 10-11:00  am

In this class we will learn how to draw depth and and show natural lighting while using drawing pencils and stumps. We will do a series of fun still life set ups from legos to candy to more traditional still life set ups.

Multicultural Art - Mexican weaving and pinatas
Tuesdays April 4-25 from 11:15-12:15 pm

Thursdays April 6-27 from 11:15-12:15 pm

In this class we will study the art of Mexican woven blankets. We will create a set of beautiful woven coasters! We will also learn all about Cinco De Mayo and create our own personal pinatas.

Session III

Drawing- Colored Pencils
Tuesdays May 2-23 from 10-11:00 am

In this class we will learn how to use prismacolor colored pencils. We will learn basic drawing techniques and blending as we do a series of abstract and realistic drawing exercises.

Multicultural Art- Central American Metal Tooling
Tuesdays May 2-23 from 11:15-12:15 pm

Thursdays May 4-25 from 11:15-12:15 pm

In this class we will study the metal art of ancient Central America and create our own design inspired by their artwork. We will transfer this design onto metal tooling sheets creating a relief image. Finally, we will take the metal art we have created and turn it into the cover for a journal!

Handmade Christmas Card making

Come and have some fun making a series of your very own Christmas cards! We will be learning how to do paper quilling as well as hand painting, line drawing, and collage to create our cards and tags. Artists should be able to complete 10-15 cards

Facial Proportion - Drawing

Here is one last drawing opportunity for this semester!
Proportion and portraiture 
In this class we will focus on drawing skills and techniques like shading and blending as well as elements like line, value, and texture to help your drawing become more realistic. We will learn how proportion is key to drawing the human face and also focus on drawing eyes, noses, and mouths

Oscar-Claude Monet was a founder of French Impressionist painting, and the most consistent and prolific practitioner of the movement's philosophy of expressing one's perceptions before nature, especially as applied to plein-air landscape painting. In this class we will study the life and work of Monet and create a painting in the impressionist style.

Famous Artist Study - Paul Klee

Paul Klee, a Swiss-born painter, printmaker and draughtsman of German nationality, was originally associated with the German Expressionist group Der Blaue Reiter, and subsequently taught at the Bauhaus, the widely influential German art school of the interwar period. Klee's diverse body of work cannot, however, be categorized according to any single artistic movement, or "school." His paintings, which are at times fantastic, childlike, or otherwise witty, served as an inspiration to the New York School, as well as many other artists of the 20th century. We will learn about Klee's life and art and create a painting inspired by what we learn.

Session I

Famous Artist Study - Monet

Drawing - one and two point perspective
Perspective Drawing is a technique used to represent three-dimensional images on a two-dimensional picture plane. Perspective was developed in the 15th century by the architects, Leon Baptista Alberti (1404-72) and Filippo Brunelleschi (1377-1446). We will learn how to use one and two point perspective to make our drawings look more realistic and accurate.

Session II

Famous Artist Study - Jasper Johns
Jasper Johns was an American artist that came onto the scene in the 1950s. Much of the work that he created led the American public away from the expressionism form, and towards an art movement or form known as the concrete. He would depict many flags and maps, and this created a more distinct style with the work that was being done during this period in American art history. We will pattern our project after the work of Jasper Johns by experimenting with multimedia layers, typography, and symbols.

Illustrator Study - Megan Coyle
Megan Coyle is a collage artist and illustrator who currently resides in the Washington, D.C. area. She creates collages entirely from magazine strips with a process that she calls “painting with paper.” We will look at some of her illustrations and watch a video about her process. Students will paint with paper to create their own image.

Landscape Watercolor

In this class we will review some basic watercolor techniques and work on a series of landscape studies meant to teach color washes, color layering, lifts and much more. Bring yourself, a friend, a spouse, or a teen and have some fun as we work together step by step.

Bookmaking
In this class we will be creating a book as well as the story and illustrations to go inside. We will do some painting, drawing, writing and, of course, book making! Come and learn how to make a surprise ending book that you can duplicate on your own all summer long to document your adventures!

Famous Artist Study- Alexander Calder
With a degree in mechanical engineering and a passion for the arts, Alexander Calder experimented with Kinetic art through the creation of two different types of sculpture: the mobile and the stabile. Composed of delicately balanced components that respond to air currents, Calder’s mobiles are graceful and poised. In contrast, stabiles are non-moving sculptures. This lesson is inspired by the mobile art of Alexander Calder and the theory of kinetic energy, with a focus on the principles of balance and movement. Preschool Art Camp
We will have a lot of fun doing storybook art with your younger artists in this class. We will read a book together and work on painting and cutting and gluing and drawing a project designed to go along with the book we read.

Famous Artist Study- Seurat/ pointillism
eiffel tower george seurat.11In this class we will study the life and work of Georges Seurat, French draftsman and painter (1859-1891). Georges Seurat is chiefly remembered as the pioneer of the Neo-Impressionist technique known as Pointillism, an approach associated with a softly flickering surface of small dots or color. We will learn this technique and use it to create our own pointillism painting. Artists will learn color theory and composition while creating their painting

Living Artist Study- Chuck Close
Charles Thomas "Chuck" Close is an American painter/artist and photographer who achieved fame as a photorealist, through his massive-scale portraits. Close is known for using creative and intricate patterns to portray a human portrait. We will study his work and create a still life painting inspired by his style of using detailed patterns to create an image.
