Adult and Teen Tuesday evenings

You and/or your teens are invited to art journaling classes on Tuesday nights from 7-8:00 pm.

What: We are working on creating our own Art Journals. Each Tuesday we will be making individual pages using various techniques in painting, collaging, etc. as well as working with writing/art prompts. Eventually, we will bind the pages into a book. I have some old books we may reuse the covers from to make our own journal covers as well.
This is a great way to

1. learn different painting techniques,

2. learn how to create mixed media art,

3. learn some basic book binding,

4. and use a combination of writing and art to get creative!

Where: I have an art classroom in my barn on my property located on the East side of Lafayette

When: Tuesday nights 7-8:00pm starting April 22 - You can start whenever you would like and skip Tuesdays as needed

Fees: $36 for 4 classes. I will have a sign in sheet each night so we can keep track of how many of your classes you have used and when you get to 4 you can pay for another set, etc.

Summer Camps 2014

Join us for some Summer Art Fun!

June 9-12 (Monday - Thursday)

Collage Art for Artists age 10 and up

9:00-10:00 am

Fees: $36 per student, supplies included

This class is designed for middle and high school students. We will study the art work and lives of Megan Coyle and Steve Jenkins. Students will work collaboratively to create unique papers to be used by the class to create original collage art work inspired by these artists. We will also learn about narrative collage and create an art piece that tells a story. Students will participate in class critiques of each others' work. 

African Masks for Artists 6-14 years old  Class is Full

10:15-11:15 am

Fees $36 per student, supplies included

In this class we will learn about african culture and the art of mask making. We will use this information to inspire our own unique mask! We will do pre-sketches, build a mask form out of cardboard, cover it in paper mache, and decorate it in paint. Artists should come prepared to get creative and messy!

June 16-19 (Monday - Thursday)

Drawing for Artists age 10 and up

9:00-10:00 am

Fees $36 per student, supplies included

This class is designed for middle and high school students. We will be learning how use proportion to help us draw faces. We will learn how to use line, value, and texture to enhance our work and give it form. Students will be encouraged to participate in critiques and discussions. 

Native American Art 1 for Artists 6-14 years old

10:15-11:15 am

Fees $36 per student, supplies included

In this class we will learn about the culture of various native american people and the artwork they have created throughout history. We will use this study to inspire our work in paper arts and game making! 

June 23-26 (Monday - Thursday) Class is Full

Textile Arts for Artists 6-18

10-11:15 am

Fees $45 per student, supplies included

In this class we will explore textile arts from around the world. We will create our own stamp and make our own cloth after the style of African Adinkra printing. We will also create a faux batik cloth after studying the work of Indonesian artists. This class will be successful for young artists as well as teens. Everyone will receive the same instructions but will be able to work at their own level of creativity. Artists should come prepared to work with non washable paints.

Fiona French - Adult Illustrator class

Every once in a while I have adult classes in the evenings. I love them! In this class we studied the same book, "Paradise", by Fiona French. We did the same technique as the kids. We used black glue and watercolor to create some pretty 

amazing art work!!

It was fun to work out color plans with just the right amount of contrast.

Fiona French 2 - Illustrator inspired art

We continued to study Fiona French and her illustrations by looking at the book "Paradise". The colors are amazing and the images have a stained glass quality to them. 

For our illustrator inspired work we created images using black glue and watercolor.

Students sketched out their ideas first and then made a final drawing on watercolor paper in pencil. Next we took white Elmer's glue that had been tinted black with acrylic paint and "drew" over our lines with it. This creates the leaded look of stained glass.

Finally we added lots and lots of color by adding watercolor paints in all of the compartments we created with our black glue.

Fiona French - Illustrator inspired art

In our Illustrator class we studied the art work of Fiona French. She has so many amazing styles it is great inspiration! In this class we looked specifically at her book "Anancy and Mr. Dry-Bone".

Our illustrator inspired artwork was to create a background in watercolor washes and then create a drawing in black permanent ink on top of our beautiful papers. 

Students created a sketch of their story page first in pencil on copy paper.

Then we took time to create our colorful backgrounds with watercolors like the ones in Fiona French's work.

We talked about art vocabulary like line, pattern, and texture.

Some students were inspired by French's use of borders!

We shared our work with each other and told the story being depicted in our work.

I am in love with this one!
